Auktion2022 Julie De Kezel

Julie De Kezel’s main focus on her practice is the comprehension of bio diverse micro organisms and how they connect in a contemporary atmosphere. The continuous experiments of the organisms takes the form in installations containing drawings, 3d-sculptures/videos, wearable objects, experimental materials in her installations. These are bound together with elements such as scent, local vegetation, sound and light. The installations unroll the numerous experiences to life by the selected organisms as well as western subcultures and saga’s partly hidden from the city life. General outcome of the works interacting with the audience concretises the aspect of how the hidden topic can interact with the audience. She uses visual stimuli drawn from social media and the fashion industry to bring new light to subjects such as myxomycetes(Slime mold), autumn crocuses, Mycelium folklore, fantasy based-games.

Inspiriert von den Blaschka-Glasmodellen von Pflanzen habe ich eine fiktive Ausstellung von ignicolous fungi geschaffen. Eine sehr wichtige Pilzart, die totes Holz in Nährstoffe für den Boden umwandelt, damit der Kreislauf weitergehen kann.

Der Titel meiner Arbeit für die Auktion bedeutet/bezieht sich auf…

„root” ist ein Spiel zwischen dem botanischen Terminus und dem sozialen Kontext, den das Wort roots mit sich bringt. In der Skulptur gibt es nur eine Art von Wurzeln, die vom Holz und den Pilzen stammen. Sie symbolisiert den nie endenden Tanz, den die beiden Organismen vollführen. Wenn man in der Zeit zurückschaut, sieht man, dass der Baum, der das tote Holz geschaffen hat, auf den Nährstoffen der Pilze aufbaut, die nur leben können, wenn der Baum stirbt. ‘back to the roots’
