Artist Statement

Ilinca Fechete is a time-based [software] researcher and artist. She is currently studying emergent digital media at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich as a student of Hito Steyerl and critical philosophy at The New Centre For Research & Practice as a student of Reza Negarestani. Her interests span observations of the photographic [the infrastructure of mass image production], critical philosophy, speculative software, machine learning, mediation, encoding, and real events while emphasizing conceptual methods to engage in political reflections and, geopolitical preoccupations. Traversing photographic–orthographic nodes [negotiations] of the underlying conditions of [re]presentation and exhibitive production, her practice often measures the tension between idea and implementation. Here, the construction of thought, the relationship between image and identification, the traversal from the Real to the symbolic, and the difference between prominence and authority are employed and implicated.
