Diese Skulpturenserie formt Kruzifixe aus Fleisch und entzieht dem Symbol durch banale Materialität gezielt seine Bedeutung. Sie untersucht, wie sich tief verwurzelte Symbole entweihen lassen, indem sie in profaner Form dargestellt werden. Die Idee entstand bei einem Heurigenbesuch auf den Weinbergen Wiens.
Artist Statement
„Lara-Jo Riva is a multimedia artist from Vienna whose found objects, clay forms, and rhythmic, gridded paintings mobilize a visual lexicon of the unconscious, staging an intuitive dance between order and chaos. Semiotics and syntax collapse into one as a haphazard, gloriously trashy interplay between colors, meanings, and materials magnify language’s textural factors, with denotation, connotation, and intonation melted, fired, and fucked into an illegible force that speaks its truth in indecipherable riddles. What unfolds is a distinct linguistic structure designed to never be read, spoken, or understood, a series of relationships that gatekeep information in silos of symbology whose interiors withhold the answers to a everything and nothing at all.“ (Evan Karas, Founder of Spielzeug Gallery NYC)
